From the author of Maybe in Another Life—named a People Magazine pick and a "Best Book of the Summer" by Glamour and USA TODAY—comes a breathtaking new love story about a woman unexpectedly forced to choose between the husband she has long thought dead and the fiancé who has finally brought her back to life.
In her twenties, Emma Blair marries her high school sweetheart, Jesse. They build a life for themselves, far away from the expectations of their parents and the people of their hometown in Massachusetts. They travel the world together, living life to the fullest and seizing every opportunity for adventure.
On their first wedding anniversary, Jesse is on a helicopter over the Pacific when it goes missing. Just like that, Jesse is gone forever.
Emma quits her job and moves home in an effort to put her life back together. Years later, now in her thirties, Emma runs into an old friend, Sam, and finds herself falling in love again. When Emma and Sam get engaged, it feels like Emma’s second chance at happiness.
That is, until Jesse is found. He’s alive, and he’s been trying all these years to come home to her. With a husband and a fiancé, Emma has to now figure out who she is and what she wants, while trying to protect the ones she loves.
Who is her one true love? What does it mean to love truly?
Emma knows she has to listen to her heart. She’s just not sure what it’s saying.
I received this book from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
One True Loves was absolutely extraordinary. EXTRAORDINARY, I tell you!
My usual MO when it comes to a book I’ve been dying to read—inhale said book as quickly as humanly possible. However, when it comes to Taylor I try to take my time to savor her words. Note the try. I was doing so well, too, until the 57% mark. At that point, there was no stopping me, bedtime be damned. I had such an intense need to know what would happen between Emma, Sam, and Jesse. Who would her one true love be? I had my favorite man, and come hell or high water, I wanted Emma to choose him. I NEEEEDED Emma to choose him. My lips are zipped as to whom my favorite was, but I was happy that Emma FINALLY listened to me and made the right decision. Now, the journey getting to the right decision tore me apart. I felt Emma’s conflict over Sam and Jesse, Sam’s fears, and Jesse’s excitement. And I mean FELT them! So much so I soaked the sleeves of my t-shirt. I was a raw, emotional mess, and I loved it! I know, I’m a weirdo for enjoying the literary torture. However, for as raw and broken as Taylor made me she did make me whole again. Watching Emma reflect on her past, present, and future, and honestly thinking things through helped heal my poor broken heart. There were some decisions she made that I wasn’t too entirely happy with and I may have yelled at her and told her I ought to smack her, I finally started to understand why she felt she needed to do them. It was those decisions that helped her see whom and what she wanted for her future. I cannot recommend One True Loves enough. If you’re looking for a poignant, heartfelt read that you can feel deep down in your chest—look no further.
