About All Things Pretty

Pretending to be something they’re not, afraid to trust anyone completely, destined to tear each other apart– this is the story of unlikely love and unbearable consequences.
Sig Locke is a cop. He was raised by a cop and all his brothers are cops. He bleeds blue, believes in right and wrong, and sees in black and white, never in shades of gray.

But that was before he met Tommi.

Tommi, with her long legs and bright green eyes, she captured Sig’s interest from the moment he saw her. Even after he discovered who she was–the girlfriend of a drug dealer, the beauty behind a criminal–he still found her utterly irresistible. What Sig doesn’t know, however, is that she has a secret even a cop can’t uncover.
Tommi Lawrence hasn’t had an easy life, and it only got more complicated the day she met Sig. She learned long ago that she can’t trust anyone. Her gut tells her that Sig is no exception, her heart tells her that he is. But that was before she found out his real identity.
Can love be forged in a fire of lies? Or will the truth destroy them both?

An Excerpt

For two weeks, I shadow Tommi.  Sometimes she knows I’m close.  Other times she doesn’t.  I follow her to drop her brother off at school. I follow her
to Tonin’s.  Sometimes she comes
back out and runs a few errands, sometimes she doesn’t come out for hours.  I can only imagine what they’re doing
in there those days.  Actually, I
can imagine quite well.  Parts of
those mental pictures are delicious as hell.  Parts of them are downright slimy.  Always, though, I’m left with the same kinds of wonderings–what the hell is a girl like her doing with a guy like him?
Day after day, I watch them together.  She never looks happy or engaged. At
least not beyond this superficial smile that she wears.  If I hadn’t met her that one time
before, I might not know the difference. But I can tell.  And I remember how nervous she was
about being late and showing up in her “street” clothes.  It’s little things like that, things
I’m starting to see more of, that make me wonder what he’s doing to keep her.
And why she goes to such lengths to stay.
He hasn’t totally possessed her, though.  At least three days a week, I follow
Tommi to some location that she says would make me uncomfortable to go into or
to a building that’s locked for one reason or another.  It’s always near a public place, one
that’s fairly easy to hide and remain anonymous in, and one that has
Wi-Fi.  On each of those days, she
carries a snazzy purse that will allow for her iPad, to hide whatever it is
that she’s doing.

Beyond the scope of my real job and my Tonin job, sometimes I wait outside, watching her place on nights when she doesn’t have plans with her disgusting boyfriend.  Her brother goes out on those nights and she stays inside doing…whatever.

I’ve thought several times of going to the door, of knocking and giving some excuse to be here or to stop by, but she’s not to a place where she’s open to trusting me yet. And I can’t afford to lose her this early on. So I wait. And I watch. On nights that she’s with Lance, I watch her climb into his car, I watch her look stunning for him, I watch him parade her around like a prize bull. That shit’s getting harder and harder to see. She’s better than that. Better than him. I’m just not sure she knows it. But I do. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that this woman is something special. And that she’s withering away here with Tonin.

My Review

Oh. My. Sweet. Baby. Jesus. All Things Pretty was awesome!
Bare with me while I try to talk about it because they’re are A LOT of secrets within the story and I’m not trying to ruin it. I liked Tommi from the minute she let out a “Holy a**munch sh*tface” and Sig had me at “Six feet, six inches of awesome.” <—That had me smiling and nodding my head.
After getting their introductions out of the way we’re taken on a fun, entertaining and secretive ride full of WTH are you hiding Tommi! I swear her secrets have secrets. And the secrets I thought I figured out? Turned out I figured out NOTHING! There was a lot of “ooohhh didn’t see that one coming!” Secrets aside, I really liked seeing Tommi and Sig form a relationship. And I really liked Sig and his sexiness. And I reallllllyyy liked the eye popping, jaw dropping, head scratching, WTF twist at the end! I tip my hat to her for that and can’t wait to see how she plays this story out. The next two weeks can come fast enough!

(M. Leighton lets us know at the start of the book that due to her contract constraints with her publisher, in terms of word count limits, she had to break up this story into two parts. BUT don’t worry because part 2 will be out on Oct 14th and by signing up for her newsletter it will be sent to us for free. Because she’s awesome like that)

New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author, M. Leighton, is a native of Ohio. She relocated to the warmer climates of the South, where she can be near the water all summer and miss the snow all winter. Possessed of an overactive imagination from early in her childhood, Michelle finally found an acceptable outlet for her fantastical visions: literary fiction. Having written over a dozen novels, these days Michelle enjoys letting her mind wander to more romantic settings with sexy Southern guys, much like the one she married and the ones you’ll find in her latest books. When her thoughts aren’t roaming in that direction, she’ll be riding wild horses, skiing the slopes of Aspen or scuba diving with a hot rock star, all without leaving the cozy comfort of her office.

About Michelle: I love coffee and chocolate, even more so when they are combined. I’m convinced that one day they could be the basis for world peace. I also love the color red and am seriously considering dying my hair.
