About Chasing Abby
The heart-stopping conclusion to the New York Times and USA Today bestselling series.
Five years, six months, eight days….
It’s been eighteen years since Abigail was born with a hole in her heart. Five years since she collapsed on the soccer field. Five years, six months, eight days since she found out she was adopted.
Abby has spent five years wondering about the family she never knew and waiting for her eighteenth birthday. When Abby shows up on the doorstep of Chris and Claire Knight, her birth parents are overjoyed to see the little girl they lost eighteen years ago.
One summer is all they have to make up for the years they lost. But a summer of love soon turns into a summer of heartache.
CHASING ABBY – Excerpt
THE HOUSE IS QUIET as I climb the steps to the second floor. My home is rarely quiet, so it always raises the hairs on my neck when I walk through the door and I’m greeted with silence. I enter the bedroom and see the door to the master bathroom is closed. I approach slowly, listening for the sound of running water, but I hear nothing. I raise my fist to knock on the door, but it opens on its own.
Claire screams when she sees me. “Shit! You scared me. I didn’t know you’d be back so soon.”
“Why are you naked? Are you taking a shower?”
She looks over my shoulder at the bedroom door. “Close the door!”
I smile as I turn around and head over to pull it closed. Then I lock the door, for good measure. When I turn around, she’s at the dresser, sifting through her panty drawer. I come up behind her and nuzzle my face in her neck so I can taste her skin.
“Where are the kids?” I murmur into her ear.
“Jimi took Ryder to get a new bodyboard. They just left.”
“Chris?” she whispers, her back arched as I slide my hand between her legs. “Remember that surprise I told you about?”
My finger slides between her flesh and she lets out a soft squeak when I find her clit. I pull her backward, away from the dresser, then I gently lay her belly-down on the bed. Sliding my left hand down the back of her left thigh, I pull it sideways to spread her legs.
“You said the surprise might involve you being naked, so I’ll just come right out and say that I really like this surprise.” My hand glides between us to undo my pants and she laughs. “What’s so funny?”
She tries to turn around, but she can’t with me lying on top of her. “Get up. I need to turn around.”
“Okay, fine. No doggy style today.”
I stand up so she can flip onto her back, but the minute I see her ample breasts trembling with movement, the sinful curve of her hips, and the light patch of hair on her mound, I can’t resist. I get right back on top of her and she laughs as she pushes me back.
“I’m serious, Chris. I have to talk to you.”
I roll my eyes as I stand up again and offer her my hand to help her up. “What could be more important than having sex right now? All the kids are gone. All of them.”
Chasing Abby was an incredible conclusion to Cassia’s Shattered Hearts series! I had a ton of questions for Abby, wondering how she felt about her situation, and Cassia took me on an emotional, heart hurting at times, journey to get my answers leaving me happy sighing and content at the end. I loved getting to see Chris and Claire as 30something adults and their kids (almost) grown up. It made me happy seeing that after all their years together they were still the same happy and in love couple that I first fell in love with in the earlier books. I loved getting to see Abby interacting with her siblings, as well and Chris and Claire. We’re given a realistic look at how awkward (at times) a reunion like this could be after 18 years. We saw Chris and Claire unsure of how to treat Abby, they didn’t want to overwhelm her and scare her off. I adored Abby and Caleb’s relationship! They reminded me of an 18 yr old Chris and Claire *happy sigh* What impressed me with this one is the fact that at times Cassia managed to pull off 7 different POV’s and NOT ONCE was it confusing. We heard from Abby, her adoptive parents, Claire, Chris, Caleb and Jimi. I was glad for all of their different POV’s because we got to see just how Abby and her reunion affected everyone and it gave our main characters a chance to defend their actions and behavior. I couldn’t stand Abby’s adoptive parents in the prior books and their individual chapters here helped me understand where they were coming from. I’ve since warmed up to them.
I inhaled Chasing Abby in a sitting, after repeatedly telling myself the famous “one more chapter before bed.” It’s been a week and I still can’t let this story go, the teasers choke me up something fierce! Although, all of the Shattered Hearts series teasers choke me up and make me happy sigh. Things happen that hurt my heart and rendered me a sobbing, snotting mess at 1 am, BUT it fit the story and the characters so I was able to come to terms with it. If you’re a fan of this series this is an absolute must read, and if you haven’t read this series, I can’t recommend it enough. Cassia has a magical way of decimating your heart (with you welcoming it) and then putting it back together all shiny and new, perfectly intact.
