Review: Forever My Girl – My Unexpected Forever – Finding My Forever by Heidi McLaughlin

Without a doubt Heidi McLaughlin’s Beaumont Series has quickly become a favorite! I read the three books in a matter of three days. Books one & two were read back to back on the same day. Heidi has created a beautiful unconventional family with this series (each book focuses on a different couple) with fun characters and adorable kids and romantic men that will make you S-W-O-O-N!

Forever My Girl is one of my “I could kick my own rear end for not reading sooner books” I bought it the day it was released and don’t know how in thee hell it took me a year to get to it. I’m ashamed of myself. Everything about this story was wonderful, I read it in about 4 hours and immediately followed up with My Unexpected Forever! I knew by page 7 it was going to be a fantastic read judging by the tears I had already, and not just a tear, but the “I’m in public and others can see me so I need to swallow the lump in my throat” kind of tears. If an author can make me feel that way just 7 pages in, I’ll read anything they write. I love second chance love stories and musicians, so this was right up my alley. I loved Liam, he came back to town to pay his respects when his childhood best friend passes away suddenly and hoped to get a glimpse of the girl he let go…well he got a glimpse of something else first and from then on he was a man on a mission to get his forever girl back. He let nothing get in his way, but, he was a gentleman things. He wasn’t all I’m an entitled rock star and I want what I want when/how I want it. I think that made me love him more. Heidi’s writing is what got me though, she made me feel and happy sigh a lot of times!!! I was genuinely happy for these characters when good things happened, cried along with them through the rough times and laughed when they did, not just for Liam & Josie but for all of the secondary characters as well. If you like second chance love stories with lovable characters PICK THIS UP!!! Don’t be a dummy like me and wait a year to read it <3

Ok. I read My Unexpected Forever right on the heels of Forever My Girl and I’m completely in love with this series. This book focuses on 4225 West’s drummer, Harrison and Josie’s best friend Katelyn whom we first meet in Forever My Girl. You could read this as a stand alone BUT I think to truly appreciate the story and the characters I really recommend reading FMG first. On to Harrison…

*sigh* I

like Harrison James, he’s a drummer, tattooed, pierced, sexy, edgy, and he’s an AMAZING single dad. He totally knocks my socks off on the swoon-o-meter. The way he loves his son Quinn is simply beautiful, despite the way Quinn came to be. We learn that Quinn wasn’t conceived via the typical one night stand. There was a twist to it that made my jaw drop. While Forever My Girl was about a second chance at love, My Unexpected Forever is about finding love again after losing a spouse. Harrison was understanding, patient and just an absolute sweetheart where Katelyn was concerned. He knew she was special from the moment he met her and it was only a matter of time before he fell for her. Katelyn was attracted to him as well but felt as if she’d be betraying her deceased husbands memory if she acted on her feelings. I wanted to smack her at times! I understood where she was coming from but at the same time she knew deep down Mason would want her to move on and be happy with someone who loved her and her girls. Some scenes in this one between Harrison and Katelyn made me all tingly inside and Katelyn’s flashbacks of her and Mason did make me cry. The flashbacks also helped me to better understand her reluctance to move on. Some scenes broke my heart while others put the broken pieces back together. I also loved getting to see Liam & Josie’s story continue here and seeing the set up of Jimmy’s story Finding My Forever. I’m a greedy reader and want more Harrison!

Oh Jimmy how I love you *whispers* I think he’s become my favorite. Maybe it’s his British accent, this is a dual POV and I did find myself reading his chapters with a British accent lol. Maybe it’s because he’s actually sweet and incredibly romantic and thoughtful. Or, maybe it’s a little of each.
Going into this one I kind of had an idea of where Jimmy’s story would be headed, however, the turn of events far surpassed my expectations! Jimmy wasn’t at all what I was expecting. Yes, in the previous two books he was the bachelor, the perpetual “uncle” to all of his friends kids. He never wanted to settle down…but sometimes people change their mind. Right? In this installment of the Beaumont series Heidi cranks up the heart pounding moments! There were twists that left me gasping and yelling “noooooooo, oh why God nooooooooo” and turns that had me cheering for Jimmy every time he fought for his Forever. There were moments so tender between him and his Sweet Lips that made me melt faster than a popsicle on a hot summer day. And at the same time, his dirty mouth made me fan myself lol. His declarations of love were so beautiful, and heartfelt I couldn’t not fall in love with him. This series has quickly become a favorite of mine and I can’t recommend it enough, if you haven’t read Heidi’s books yet you really are missing out!
