On the day before it’s release I got to sit down with USA Today Bestselling author Melody Grace and ask her a few questions about With Every Heartbeat, book #1 in her new Cities of Love Series
(Which is FABULOUS by the way, I devoured it one sitting on Sunday)
Rome. The city of young lovers, old secrets, and intoxicating new desire…
I thought I knew what I wanted in life. I thought my destiny was set. Then I met him, and everything changed.
Raphael is bold, passionate, and seductive. He sees something in me I never dreamed possible, and now he’s determined to show me a world beyond rules — a dance without limits. I want to trust him, but I’m scared. Because I know once I fall, there’ll be no going back.
An innocent dancer. A mysterious stranger. As Annalise is drawn deeper into the romantic delights of Rome, she’ll question everything she believed about her future. But with opening night looming, can she find the strength to risk it all? And will she be forced to choose between her one true love, ballet, and the new passion in her heart?
:My Interview with Melody:
Today’s a test for my self-control! I’m keeping my fan girl reigned in tightly as I have the pleasure of talking to Author Melody Grace, about her new Cities of Love Series. With Every Heartbeat, book #1 in the series releases tomorrow and I can’t wait for everyone to read it!!! I had the chance to read it early and as usual, Melody gave me a beautiful story about first love that’s full of passion and romance.
Me: Melody, thank you for taking the time to sit with me today!
Thanks so much for having me!
Me: Can you tell me how you’re feeling with the release of With Every Heartbeat tomorrow? Are you nervous releasing a new series?
So nervous! I thought I could be all cool and calm, but I feel like a debut author all over again. I’ve been so fortunate to have so much support with Unbroken and the Beachwood Bay series, it’s really nerve-wracking to strike out and try something new!
*She has nothing to be nervous about!*
Me: How did Annalise and Raphael’s story come to be?
I’m a total dance movie junkie: Dirty Dancing, Step Up, Strictly Ballroom… I love them all! I always wanted to try a story like that for myself, and I think dance can be such a wonderful metaphor for life and love – learning to express yourself on your own terms, choosing to dance your own steps instead of following someone else’s.
I was lucky enough to visit Rome this year, and I fell head over heels in love with the city. It’s so beautiful and romantic, I knew I had to set a book there. It all came together really fast, and Annalise’s story just flowed out of me.
Me: Both characters are dancers, and you did a fantastic job describing the dancing, do you dance yourself?
Thank you! I took ballet classes when I was a kid, but other than that, I’m a total amateur. Every year I watch So You Think You Can Dance and swear I’m going to learn ballroom or modern or something, but I never do! Still, I love to watch it, and I’m so pleased the dance scenes worked for you. I’m sure a ballet expert would tell me everything I got wrong, but I just wanted to convey the feel of dancing, and what it meant to the characters.
Me: What was your favorite thing about writing With Every Heartbeat?
Tough one… I loved being able to revisit Rome in my mind, and ‘live’ there for a few months, lol. But I also fell for Raphael and Annalise’s story. I think their relationship is so beautiful, they share so much of themselves, it’s really special to me.
Me: Their story made me happy sigh, it’s so beautiful
Me: You write men that are a splendid combination of swoon worthy and alpha…is there someone that inspires them?
Haha, I wish! No, the truth is, I broke up with my boyfriend about halfway through writing With Every Heartbeat. It was really tough at first, writing the romance scenes when I felt so un-romantic, but it actually really helped me: believing in Annalise and Raphael’s relationship helped me move on, and believe in that for myself. Or maybe that’s TMI? Sorry!
Me: We’re all friends here, there’s no TMI
Me: Have you always know you wanted to be a writer?
Always. I was such a bookworm as a kid, I’ve wanted to write ever since I realize people actually wrote those books – and I could do it too!
Me: Favorite character- Emerson, Hunter or Raphael?
Nooooooooooo! You can’t make me choose, you just can’t. I’ll take all of them at once, thanks!
Me: This was a trick question, one simply can not choose!
Me: Book 2 in the series, With Every Song (set for release in 2014) takes place in Paris, are there any secrets you can share about Rosalie and Sebastien?
Ooh, let me see… It’ll be another fabulously romantic book, that’s for sure. You meet Rosalie in With Every Heartbeat, but we haven’t really scratched the surface of her character. You’ll see she’s got some secrets, and things she’s running from in her life. And as for Sebastien, he might just be my most alpha hero yet? He’s a composer, and we all know how those brooding artist types can be 😉
Me: Lastly, What’s next on the Melody Grace release schedule for 2013?
Unwrapped! I’m releasing a Beachwood Bay holiday novella on December 10th, I’m so excited. It follows Lacey and Daniel, getting snowed in on their way to Juliet and Emerson’s wedding. And maybe sexy shenanigans ensue… 😉
Me: Well I know what I’ll be one-clicking on December 10th! I’ve been itching to get Daniel’s story and I’m excited for the wedding <3 I love weddings…and babies *hint, hint*
Melody, I want to thank you again for sitting down with me today and please come back anytime! My door is always open 🙂
