Cadence Miller is a good girl. She just happens to make one terrible mistake her junior year in high
school which costs her ten months in juvenile detention. Now a senior, she’s lost everything: her best
friend, the trust of her parents, driving privileges, Internet access. It’s a lonely existence.
But there is one bright spot: Mark Connelly, her very cute, very off-limits 28-year-old calculus teacher.
She falls hard for him—a ridiculous schoolgirl crush headed nowhere. She can’t help it. He’s the only
good thing at Crestview High. She doesn’t expect him to reciprocate her feelings. How inappropriate,
right? But he does. And he shows her.
And that’s when her life goes from bad to good.
(New Adult romance)

Good is book #1 in the Too Good series, Better will be the 2nd and final book of this series

:My Review:
Ok…to start off, Good was better than Good, it was great!!! S. Walden was able to take a ton of taboo subjects and make it work. And it worked well for me. We’ve got a teacher/student relationship, a solid 10 yr age difference, and we have varying religious beliefs! Talk about all the things you’re not supposed to discuss at the dinner table; I respect the author for writing her story as she saw it and not writing something just to make it “socially acceptable.” Two thumbs up S. Walden!
Moving on…when we first meet Cadence she’s on the side of the road picking up trash. See, Cadence made one really bad mistake months back and landed herself a 10 month stay in the kiddie clink (juvie). She also happens to meet Mark that same day. Imagine her surprise when the next time she sees him it’s when she walks into his class on the first day of school. I felt for Cadence on that first day back and in general, in addition to her parents treating her like a second class citizen at home she now also faced being the social pariah at school. She was subjected to nasty pranks and name calling over one stupid mistake. She paid her debt to society but no one let her forget it. I found it ironic her good Christian parents and Christian classmates still judged her and couldn’t forgive her for her one bad judgement call. I mean, I know what she did wasn’t the best idea, but she was a teenager, we all did dumb things at that age. I liked her character a lot, while she still had bouts of immaturity at 17-18 she was insightful at times too. She was turning 18 and coming into her own, and personally I found it refreshing she was starting to question the things she was always taught just like a normal person her age would do.
On to Mr. Connelly…I have to say I didn’t hate him. I didn’t get that creeper/perv vibe from him. While yes, he was Cadence’s teacher I don’t think he went into school that first day thinking he was going to pick up a student. I loved how Good showed the complicated side of love and relationships. You can’t help who you fall for or choose when it happens. It doesn’t come wrapped in a neat little package. Cadence was old enough to make her own choices and Mark never pressured her to do anything, there was no sex until she turned 18. There were two scenes where I wanted to give him a good swift kick to his crotch though, I’m hoping in book #2, Better, we learn more about him and maybe gain some insight as to why he reacted the way he did in those scenes. I liked how he was trying to get Candace to see that not everything in the world is black and white like she was taught, there are gray areas. All in all I really liked this book, I’ve only read a few teacher/student books and those characters were in college, I liked the way this was written as well as the characters. There is a bit of a cliffhanger here, not relationship wise but with the story in general. It didn’t leave me all “OMG WTF I’m gonna die” BUT make no mistake about it, I can’t wait for the 2nd and final book in the series, Better to come out. I HAVE to know what comes next in their relationship.
Good gets 4 stars from me

:About S. Walden:

S. Walden used to teach English before making the best decision of her life by becoming a full-time writer. She lives in Georgia with her very supportive husband who prefers physics textbooks over fiction and has a difficult time understanding why her characters must have personality flaws. She is wary of small children, so she has a Westie instead. Her dreams include raising chickens and owning and operating a beachside inn on the Gulf Coast (chickens included). When she’s not writing, she’s thinking about it.
She loves her fans and loves to hear from them. Email her at and visit her website at to get up-to-date information on her current projects.

  1. I am an ereader and have been for years. I was doing a green book campaign and the head of it made a comment about dead trees (paperbacks). Kind of made it even more important to me. I do have paperbacks that authors have signed and sent to me and those are cherished but my first choice for actual reading is always a mobi copy. 🙂
