Today Brei Betzold , author of Painted Lines and My Misery Muse & Faith is sharing with us her 4 star review of Skin Deep. It was Brei who told me about the book back in May. I woke up to a Facebook message that simply said “you need to read this one” along with the Amazon link. It’s nothing new for Brei to suggest books to me but I know enough that when she says “it’s a need to read” I don’t even question it; I just one click. We’ll be back here on Thursday for my review 🙂

Oh, who was she kidding? Emma knew that going to the tattoo shop with her best friend, Allie, would result in getting badgered until she ended up with some sort of needle piercing her flesh in one way or another. What she didn’t plan on was ending up face-first on the floor of the shop with a busted lip. Or doing it in front of the hottest guy she’d seen since…well, ever.
Mortified, Emma never thought she’d ever step foot back in Skin Deep again. But fate, with a little help from Emma’s flighty best friend and a chance encounter with a fudge bar, steps in. Now Emma’s torn between taking a chance on getting her heart broken by the enigmatic, gorgeous Lucas, and playing it safe with good ol’ trusty B.O.B.
Lucas lets Emma know that he gets what he wants, and what he wants is her. When Emma gives in and quits pushing him away, she’s surprised at how quickly the walls around her heart crumble. She’s even more surprised that her unconventional, zany family just endears her even more to him.
But no one knows there’s someone that wants her more, and they’ll stop at nothing to get her.
*Recommended for readers 18+ due to HOT sexual encounters, adult situations, and language.
Let me start with saying I really really really like this book, it has humor that will make you laugh out loud, sex that makes you tingle in the right places, a strong leading lady, and a tattoo artist who makes you swoon. I am getting ahead of myself, Emma’s best friend and one of my favorite characters in the book, Allie, drags her against her will into a tattoo parlor. This is where she meets Luke, a sexy tattoo artist, and falls on her face. I mean literally falls on her face in front of the hottest guy she’d ever seen before, you feel embarrassed for her but I couldn’t stop laughing my ass off. Luke sweeps her off her feet, and helps fix her up.
The book continues with Luke asking Emma out, the relationship evolves quickly yet naturally. I really liked Luke’s character he was a bit caveman rolled in with family protector, friend, and a sweetness you at times didn’t suspect. Emma was quirky, a bit smart mouthed, and a past that taught her things aren’t always what they seem. It takes a while but Luke finally breaks down the wall to get to Emma’s trust and things progress quickly from there. You quickly fall in love/lust with the side characters, Allie for her bluntness and humor, Brandon for his sweet nature and sometimes childlike persona, Jackson sigh Jackson he’s smart, funny, and kinky what’s not to love. Together with Emma’s quirky family they become one unit that fit together quite well.
With all that said there were times that our Emma, our leading lady, irritated the piss out of me. Strange things happen to her throughout the book and she freaking IGNORES them. I wanted to smack her upside the head at times.
All in all this was a good book and I would recommend it as well as give it a solid four stars. I am also anxiously awaiting the next book in the series, and hoping that three of the characters are who the next book are about.
