How do you keep going when you feel like your life is over?
Maggie never thought she’d see Clay again. So, she attempts to put her life back together after her heart has been shattered to pieces. Moving on and moving forward, just as Clay wanted her to.
Clay never stopped thinking of Maggie. Even after ripping their lives apart and leaving her behind to get the help he so desperately needed. He is healing…slowly. But his heart still belongs to the girl who tried to save him.
When a sudden tragedy brings Maggie and Clay face to face again, nothing is the same. Yet some things never change. Can the darkness that threatened to consume them be transformed into something else and finally give them what they always wanted? And can two people who fought so hard to be together, finally find their happiness? Or will their demons and fear drive them apart for good?
The thing about love, is even when it destroys you, it has a way of mending what is broken. And in the shadows, you can still see the light.
“The thing about shadows is that they’re not all darkness. You need to have light to have shadows. So just look for it.”
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, A Meredith Walters is one of those authors that just doesn’t write a bad book. Yet again she blew me away with Light in the Shadows. After the way Find You in the Dark ended I NEEDED more of Clay and Maggie’s story; I wanted them to have a happy ending and I wanted them to find that HEA together. Light in the Shadows starts off with Clay in a treatment facility where he’s getting help and from the start I was rooting for him and found myself proud of him because #1 he was getting help and was committed to it and #2 he was facing his problems and talking openly and honestly about them using the healthier coping mechanisms he was taught. Clay really has become one of my favorite characters, to see the positive changes in him was just fantastic, he showed tremendous growth and maturity here. Things do happen that cause him to return to Virginia sooner than expected and I was terrified that he was going to relapse but he didn’t!!! There were times he wanted to find relief in his old behaviors but he knew he was stronger and could get thru things in a positive way. I also think Maggie and her love for him had a lot to do with it, he knew how much she loved him and wanted to be deserving of that love. I will say their relationship wasn’t as rocky this time around, they still faced their challenges but both of them dealt with them as they came and they did it openly and honestly. They knew the mistakes they made during their past go round would ruin them if they made them again and they were committed to making this work. Light in the Shadows seriously soothed the emotional wounds Find You in the Dark left behind on me, I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect follow up. I was hooked from page one and wouldn’t let go until I got to the end and of course the sap I am was in tears reading the epilogue.
“I love you, Maggie May Young. Always and forever.” And then my mouth touched hers and I felt my future begin.”
I have to point out and give A Meredith credit, she does a beautiful job of realistically and honestly showing us the daily struggle that people with mental illness face and that it really is a lifelong battle…
For me Light in the Shadows is
hands down a
