Recently I had the pleasure of interviewing Kimberly Knight; we sat down and I asked her about her debut Where I Need to Be and a little about herself <3
Kimberly I want to welcome you and thank you for taking the time to sit with me! I loved Where I Need to Be and I’m excited to have you here!!!
-Where I Need to Be is your first book correct? What inspired you to write it? Thank you. Yes, Where I Need to Be is my first book. I was inspired to write it because I have read so many great books and had a story of my own in mind. I originally started writing just to see if I could finish it. I wasn’t even thinking at that point that I would actually be publishing it. This is all crazy for me. 🙂
– Did you always know you wanted to be a writer?Ha, no! I have never been a reader…until I read the FSOG series. Since then I have read over 60 books. I read the Twilight Saga which took me like almost six months to complete and Hunger Games which took like three months for me. Now I just know what sparks my interest. 😉
-Like I said earlier, I loved your book; can you tell me what your thoughts were while you were writing it? Well, for a while I honestly thought I would never finish — that is for sure, lol. Even though the book is short, I felt like I was writing forever. It only took me about a month and a half to write it (before edits). I work full time but all my spare time was devoted to my writing. Also I really enjoyed how I came up with all the scenes that made up the complete story. I knew how I wanted it to start and I knew how I wanted it to finish. It was just a matter of getting there.
-How did you come up with Spencer and Brandon? Are they based on anyone in real life?I’m not sure why, but I’ve always loved the name Spencer for a girl. And Brandon’s smile is based on Brandon Crawford from The San Francisco Giants, so I felt that it was only fitting to name him Brandon. Spencer and Ryan have characteristics of some of the people in my life and Christy was based off a person I once knew.
-Where I Need to Be is book one in a trilogy, have you started book two yet?I have started book two, but it is only in the beginning phases. I hope to have it out in early 2013.
-Are there any authors you’d consider your mentor thru this process?Yes, Teresa Mummert, Emily Snow, R.L. Mathewson and Molly McAdams all helped me with getting this book off the ground. Without them, I would still be trying to figure out how to put my book online for sale, lol.
-What was the last book you read? What did you think of it?Wallbanger by Alice Clayton. I really enjoyed the book; however, the wait for them to get together killed me. I just wanted to scream, “Just do it already!” Also that kitty, Clive, is a little stinker. 😉
-Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?My favorite author is Sylvia Day. The first book I read of hers was Bared to You. I love the way she writes; I can’t put my finger on why exactly, but I just think it is awesome.
Favorite book- Man there are so many I could choose from. I know this is a speed round but… Okay, I am going to have to go with Bared to You.
Favorite band- Rascall Flatts
Favorite song- Currently, “Wanted” by Hunter Hayes
Favorite dessert- Again there are so many to choose from, but Creme Brulee is one of them!
