Julia Abbot and Ryan Matthews have been inseparable best friends since the moment they met. Each of them fight an internal battle, unwilling to risk their incredible friendship, but unable to quell their deep longing for the other. On the verge of Ryan’s departure to Harvard Medical School and Julia’s for her new job on the opposite coast, they are forced to face the undeniable truth of their deeper feelings and find themselves enthralled in a passion like neither has ever known.
The lovers are faced with forced separation, great distances and others who try to sabotage their relationship as both of them work to build the shared future they both dream of. When their lives begin to finally gel, Julia is offered a promotion that will jettison her career to new heights. Ryan is left angry and bereft as it will only postpone their reunion yet again. In light of the sacrifices she has made for him, he can hardly deny her, and Julia is faced with the most difficult decision of her life. Will she choose the chance of a lifetime or the love of her life?
The Future of Our Past is the first book in The Remembrance Trilogy, a transcendent love story about the type of powerful and passionate connection we all dream of.
I added The Future of Our Past to my TBR list after E.L. James had suggested it on Facebook, and ended up grabbing it while it was free on Amazon (it’s $5.99 and worth double that!)
Kahlen Aymes has given us such a BEAUTIFUL story between Ryan and Julia, best friends who both want to take their friendship a step further but keep that to themselves for fear of losing their amazing friendship. Thanks to her vivid descriptions of the characters, places and situations it was easy to feel the emotions of each of these characters. After Ryan & Julia FINALLY admit their feelings for each other I got so pulled in and LOVED seeing their relationship develop and grow a relationship full of passion, trust, and 100% unconditional love despite distance the distance keeping them apart. Due to their honesty, trust and excellent communication they were able to overcome every challenge that seemed to get thrown their way!
Now since no love story is ever smooth sailing I will admit once I got to the middle of the story I kept waiting for the angst and heartache to hit me but it didn’t…and I thought I was safe getting my happy ending…BUT I WAS WRONG!!! SO WRONG!!!
Kahlen hit me with an ending so completely and utterly heart wrenching, I was a crying, nose running, hiccupping MESS! All I could think of was “why? How could you do this to us?” This was the first book where, even though I had the second book in my Kindle waiting, I needed to hold off on reading it because I felt so emotionally attached to the story and felt broken and like I had to heal after that ending. I can’t say enough good things about The Future of Our Past except just read it, you won’t be disappointed. I give it
